Gamestop: PSPgo Sales Slow "By Design"

These days, the only news that comes out about the PSPgo is bad news, whether it's slow sales, retailer retaliation, or industry criticism. But there's one company that thinks we'll be seeing a lot more from Sony's all-digital portable.

New Japanese Holiday Bundle for the PSP... 3000?!

After a rather anticlimactic release on Sunday, the PSP Go has not been doing as well as Sony thought. Well, today Sony announced that they will be providing Japanese retailers with new bundles just in time for the holiday season. This will surely help to boost sales of the PSP Go... right?

Wrong.

It looks like these bundles are actually for the PSP 3000, which is odd, considering Sony has been trying to build momentum for the Go over the past couple of months. The bundles will come packed with a 4 GB Memory Stick, system pouch and cloth, and the system in either Piano Black, Pearl White, Vibrant Blue, or Radiant Red. The bundles are set to release on December 3 in Japan and will cost 19,800 yen.

Six Exclusive Costumes Available for LittleBigPlanet PSP Pre-Orders

In true LittleBigPlanet fashion, Media Molecule has announced the pre-order bonus for the PSP version of the game. The official GameStop page for the game revealed the bonuses, and if you're a fan of Sony's exclusive franchises, you're in for a real treat.

For pre-orders of LittleBigPlanet, players will pick up six costumes for the lovable hero, Sackboy, with two apiece from a major PS3/PSP exclusive game. First, players will be able to don Sackboy as Uncharted's lead hero Nathan Drake, or as Uncharted 2's femme fatale Chloe Frazer. Dirty, messy rally racing more your thing? Put Sackboy in racing outfits inspired by Motorstorm, with a male and female tracksuit and helmet provided. Last but certainly not least, you can turn Sackboy into a Helghast soldier from Killzone 2, or better yet, turn him into a tank. Yes, an ACTUAL tank.

No word on if the pre-order bonus is exclusive to GameStop, but expect more word soon. The PSP version of LittleBigPlanet is set to hit store shelves on November 17.

PSPgo Hits 28,000 in First-Day Sales in Japan

The PSPgo launched in Japan on Sunday, and the results seem to be relatively mediocre. Andriasang is reporting, via Japanese tracking service Enterbrain, that the download-only console only sold 28,275 units on day one, despite a heavy push from retailers and downloadable releases of major RPGs such as Persona 3 Portable and Dissidia: Final Fantasy Universal Tuning. In comparison, the DSi's launch in Japan went far better, with the console moving 170,000 units in a two-day span last November.

However, one factor that may have contributed to the console's launch trouble was its launch date. Consoles usually launch on a Saturday, never on a Sunday. Even so, it'll be interesting to see if the PSPgo can get out of this funk.

LittleBigPlanet PSP is a "Tremendous Version" of the Game According to Media Molecule Producer

Sackboy is so adorable, yes I said it, so what? Anyhow, at the Eurogamer Expo Media Molecule's producer Martin Lynagh explained his thoughts on Sackboys new home on the Sony handheld.

Leynagh began by saying "I think it's a tremendous version of the game. The sacrifices made were the right ones. It really plays well, which is a sort of testament to the team's creativity and hard work. Leynagh was then asked what it meant for the PSP system as a whole by fitting the LittleBigPlanet experience on it. Leynagh responded, "It says its a viable platform, and shows that there's a whole range of titles that people can play on, it really broadens the appeal."

LittleBigPlanet PSP will offer you all the greatness and fun as its big brother on the PS3, head to your local retailer on the 17th of November to snag your littlebigcopy of LittleBigPlanet PSP

Analysts Believe a New UMD-Compatible PSP is a "Strong Possibility"

With the release of the download-only PlayStation Portable Go, it seems as though the days of the Universal Media Disc are all but behind Sony as they blaze the trail toward the digital-downloadable future. As such, the next inevitable PSP iteration will be sans UMD as well, right?

Well, maybe not, according to a pair of analysts, who instead believe that Sony's proprietary format will be supported by its next handheld.

Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker English Demo Announced

Kojima Productions announced today that an English demo for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker will be available sooner rather than later. This will come after three separate releases of the Japanese demo.

The Kojima Productions Report podcast said that the demo would be fully localized in English including voice acting from the previously announced English cast. No specifics were given on demo content but it is assumed that it will be identical to the latest Japanese demo, just all in English.

The demo for Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker was first released unintentionally when IGN uploaded the Tokyo Game Show 2009 demo to their website. The same demo later showed up on Konami's own Japanese site for Peace Walker. A slightly modified Japanese demo is set to make its Playstation Store debut this weekend along with the Japanese launch of the PSP Go.

Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X and DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower Come to PSN

The powers that be at Capcom and Sony have once again come together to increase the value of the PSP, so now the masses can clap and shout with glee.

But enough of the bad rhymes. The PlayStation Store has added two new PlayStation Portable games from Capcom in the forms of DarkStalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X.

For those unfamiliar with the titles, Capcom offers these brief details:

The fresh and classic: Mega Man Maverick Hunter X is a remixed, remastered, re-awesome version of Mega Man X (a la the SNES). When Sigma leads a group of Reploids in a revolt against mankind, it's up to X and Zero to protect the world from ruin.

Japanese PSP Go Launch Content Revealed

The next Japanese Playstation Store update is set to include some enticing bits of free PSP content for those with foreign accounts.

The PSP Go will finally launch in Japan this weekend. Like the North American and European launches, this one will see the release of a lot of new content on that region of the Playstation Store. This includes free demos to three highly anticipated PSP games. The official launch is on Sunday November 1st but the releases are spread around the surrounding days.

The first piece of free content will be a new Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker demo on the 1st. This demo will be largely the same as the one released to the public by IGN at the Tokyo Game Show with some improvements. There will be an additional control scheme, the hand-to-hand combat will be adjusted as will the AI.

November 2nd will see the release of demos for Phantasy Star Portable 2 and Valkyria Chronicles 2. None of these demos have been confirmed for release on any western Playstation Stores. Phantasy Star Portable 2 hasn't even been confirmed or any western release yet.

The list of confirmed full PSP games isn't quite as big as what Americans ended up getting on October 1st. Two Japan exclusive games however are Echochrono and Persona 3 Portable.

New Peace Walker Demo to be Available Alongside PSP Go Launch

It is clear that Kojima is doing all that he can to support Sony's portable platform. If anything will sway gamers into shelling out their hard earned cash to purchase a PSP - let alone a Go - it will be Kojima Production's direct sequel to the story of Big Boss. Peace Walker is gaining a considerable amount of hype; so much so that the next console Metal Gear title has been pushed to the wayside.

It looks like Kojima will be refueling excitement for not only Peace Walker and its 2010 release, but also the debut of the download-centered PSP Go. According to the Examiner, a new demo for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be available for download via PSN starting November 1st, which is the same day the PSP Go hits store shelves in Japan. Coincidence? I think not. While the demo is essentially the same as the one that was available at TGS, it does contain a few noteworthy additions including new cutscenes, new control options and a new map. However, here's the kicker, the demo is in Japanese. Better get your Japanese-English dictionary ready because I'm sure there's going to be some juicy plot points you won't want to miss.

SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 Delayed to 2010

While the PSP's 2009 holiday season isn't looking as game-deprived as it has in recent years, Sony has decided to bump one of the fall's biggest titles to next year. SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 is now set for release on January 12th, 2010.

Sony, via PlayStation.blog, confirmed that the game is still on schedule, and much more will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Cho Aniki Zero Beefing Up PSP

For whatever reason, there seems to be a lot of Western love towards the Cho Aniki series...hopefully not in THAT way. First, there was the series' appearance on Virtual Console. Now, the newest installment, Cho Aniki Zero, will be receiving a downloadable release on the PSP and PSPgo next year courtesy of Aksys Games.

For the unwashed masses, Cho Aniki is a side-scrolling shooter where you play as a muscle-bound strongmen (wut) as they fly through space to battle the evil forces of Emperor Balzac II (wut). Collect enough protein (wut) and you can unlock the super-charged Men's Beam attack (WUT).

Yeah, needless to say, it may be worth checking this one out when it releases in Spring of 2010. We won't judge you...certainly not.

Prinnies Return to Be the Hero on PSP

Let's face it - everyone loves Prinnies. Those adorable Satanically-spawned exploding penguins with a penchant for l33t speak have already starred in one title, the offbeat, challenging, and extremely satisfying Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? on PSP. Now, it appears they will be making a return to the handheld, as Nippon Ichi has officially announced a second Prinny platformer.

The game is titled Prinny 2: Dawn's ??? Epic Battle - and no, those question marks aren't a typo. Nippon Ichi seems to be covering up part of the title, but why? Who cares! Prinnies! DOOD!

Kojima on Why MGS: Peace Walker is on PSP: "It's for the Kids"

If there is one grievance I have seen people take up with Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, it is the simple fact that the game is on the PlayStation Portable, rather than one of the home consoles. I don't necessarily understand it; perhaps people want it to have a bigger-budget look, or maybe they simply don't own a PSP.

But whatever the case may be, creator Hideo Kojima has given an explanation as to why the latest Snake tale is being placed on the less-powerful Portable device, rather than on the PlayStation 3 or even the Xbox 360. And that explanation is... so kids can play it?
