Weekly Shonen Jump Unveils The Four Warriors of Light

When will Japanese developers learn? Teaser pages with countdown clocks almost never work. Some outlet or another inevitably scoops the big reveal! Take Square Enix's latest teaser, for instance. It went live a few days ago, featuring a hand-drawn landscape and the number "4." Later, a dragon appeared. Then a boy. Then a girl.

Then scans from the latest Weekly Shonen Jump surfaced and spoiled Square Enix's nice surprise: The Four Warriors of Light: A Final Fantasy Anecdote.

One Devoted Fan Does Their Part to Encourage More Retro Game Challenge Sales

Last week gave rise to some sad news, as Xseed Games revealed that in order for them to bring the sequel to Retro Game Challenge to North America, the first game would have to sell around 100,000 units. And unfortunately, it appears that they are well short of their goal.

Disappointed by this news, one fan of the title decided to see what they could do to encourage more people to purchase the title. Hence, the Retro Game Challenge Challenge was born.

Xseed: 100,000 More Copies of Retro Game Challenge Need to Be Sold for Sequel

The Namco Bandai game Retro Game Challenge, based on the Japanese television show Game Center CX and localized for American audiences by Xseed, is a blast from gaming's past that delivers a fun experience to anyone who grew up loving games in the 80's. And the game (to say nothing of the show which inspired it) is popular enough to warrant a sequel.

However, it appears that the likelihood of it being released on our shores is dismal at best. How can this be? After all, it seems like all who have played it have loved it.

Double Your Tingle, Double Your Fun; DS Gets Two Tingle Games, Not Just One

Well, it looks like the faerie is finally out of the bag over at Nintendo of Japan. The new Famitsu has arrived, and lets us know that Tingle is making his return to the Nintendo DS in not one, but two new games, one of which is available now via the DSiWare service.

IGN reports that "Dekisugi Tingle Pack" made a surprise appearance on the DSi Store today, and at a cost of 500 Nintendo Points. It features five "tools:" a tarot card-reading fortune teller that will predict your love and financial future; a time with a robot Tingle who alerts you; "a calculator which can be used to split the bill unevenly (in case you want to play gentleman or boss);" a musical program featuring a Tingle marionette, which will dance in front of your DSi pics; and a coin game which can be played by up to 20 people.

MegaMan Battle Network/Star Force Crossover Announced; Star Force 3 Demo Available, Axed for Europe?

2009's Electronic Entertainment Expo came and went a few weeks ago with no word at all from Capcom regarding what their next plans for the Mega Man franchise are. However, in Japan, that was not the case when the World Hobby Fair rolled into town.

Though details were scarce, Dark Messiah Blog and COCOROG report that the company did reveal that they were going to release "Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star" (in Japan, "Rockman.EXE" is what their version of MegaMan Battle Network is called, and "Ryusei no Rockman," or "Shooting Star Rockman," is what MegaMan Star Force is known as there), a crossover between their two main MegaMan RPG franchises that is expected to hit the Nintendo DS in Japan sometime later this year. Details are to be formally announced in the September issue of CoroCoro.

Guitar Hero On Tour: Modern Hits Rocks, But That's Not How DSi Rolls

Hello, Kombo readers! Are you ready to rock?

I said, "are you ready to rock?"

Then I hope you don't have a DSi, because you'll be doing no rocking on that.

It's been something of a no-brainer and even more or less said from the beginning, but if you want to play any of the Guitar Hero On Tour games, you'll need a DS that doesn't have the "i" in the name, due to its lack of a cartridge slot. And that includes the latest iteration, Modern Hits.

E3 2009: Hands-On with LEGO Battles

If I'm being completely honest here, and I am, I'll say that LEGO Battles was a game that barely even popped up on my radar before E3. Going into the show I'd only heard of it once before I was assigned a tour of the Warner Bros. booth. I knew it was an RTS title that took place within the LEGO universe… and that's it.

So I approached the game with basically no excitement whatsoever. Sure, the concept in and of itself is one that had me a little giddy with boyish wonder. It's a video game that works with the idea of fighting LEGOs with LEGOs, isn't this something a lot of us used to do as kids? Take that concept and throw it into a pile with touch screen capabilities and RTS mechanics and you've got the formula for a winner.

Nintendo Zone Service Unveiled in Japan

The biggest name in portable gaming once again teams with the biggest name in fast food as DS meets McD's.

As a part of Nintendo's new Nintendo Zone service in Japan, owners of the dual-screened handheld will find themselves afforded new services at McDonald's as the two partner up for "Mac de DS," which may be more easily understood as "DS at McDonalds."

My Game This Weekend - 06.12.09 - Vacations and Tribulations

After last week's E3 coverage, I need a break. So this weekend, the wife and I are getting out of the house to enjoy a little time away. As a result, it appears that my game time this weekend will be relegated to my Nintendo DS (he ol' Phat version), and some quality time unraveling the secrets of Mask De*Masque in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials & Tribulations.

Assuming I have time for it, that is. I might bring along a little Mario as well, possibly New Super Mario Bros., as Nintendo's showing has given me a bit of a craving. As for the wife, I get the feeling she'll have my PSP in tow, playing her recently-downloaded Final Fantasy VII.

So, that's my game(s?) this weekend; what are yours?

Nintendo Opens Tingle Website; Pick a Card

Yesterday, the latest issue of Famitsu delivered word that a new Tingle game was on the way to Nintendo DS, though the details were quite scarce. But as usual, it was merely another day before Famitsu's revelations took on the form of ones and zeroes on the web, which means today is the day in which Nintendo has rolled out the site for the new game.

It's a most peculiar page, in a way only Tingle could manage: There is a TV with no reception, save for a date indicating that we'll likely see a trailer come June 18th. There's also a magazine, which appears to be a method of subscribing for updates (but it's in Japanese, so don't hold me to that), and of course, the bell.

Ring the bell, and a fortune teller appears to deliver a fortune to you... also in Japanese. At least the card itself, when revealed, shows a picture, so you get some idea of what they're telling you.

We'll keep an eye on this one for you.

E3 2009 Media: Ace Attorney Investigations Video and Screens

Miles Edgeworth is awesome, and I cannot wait to play the upcoming Ace Attorney game which features him in a starring role. Usually, everyone is against the player and siding with the prosecutor; it'll be nice for once to actually be the prosecutor.

For those who've not yet heard, this game takes place both before and after the third game in the Ace Attorney series, Trials and Tribulations. Here's some opening gameplay footage from Capcom:

	    Video Games | Ace Attorney: Edgeworth | E3 09: Opening GameplayXBox 360 | Playstation 3 | Nintendo Wii

One of my favorite parts so far? Edgeworth does not use a magic talisman or a bracelet to help his cases; he uses his mind and pure logic. On the other hand, this seems more like a detective game, rather than a courtroom game, mainly because this AA game doesn't have any courtroom scenes as the others did. That's a bit disappointing.

Finally, be sure to check out the new English screenshots we've added to our gallery!
