Namco and SEGA Zippos Invite You to Smoke if You've Got 'Em
November 4, 2009 | 3:13 PM PST

Despite my parents' contrary behavior, I have never been into smoking. However, novelty manufacturer Banpresto seems to be doing their humble best to make me regret never lighting up.

As you can see above, the company is producing a line of limited edition Zippos based on Namco arcade classics such as Xevious, Pac-Man, DigDug, and Galaxian, all in celebration of next year's 30th anniversary of Pac-Man. GameSetWatch says that they will probably wind up in import shops like NCSX, as they are likely targeting the more smoke-heavy Japanese community.

They don't come cheap, either; each lighter is set to fetch ¥8,400 ($93) way out East.

It had also been announced earlier this year that Pac-Man himself would wind up with a variety of Zippos with his branding on them, which you can see below:

Available this month, these appear to be more expensive, as GameSetWatch reported a cost of $110 USD for these. They also point out the coolness of the black and gold one, which shows a ghost in Pac-Man's stomach when you flip the top.

Finally, supposing Namco's arcade icons aren't your thing, then you might want to take your lighter to the next level. And in that, Banpresto still has you covered, as they are also producing SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) and Saturn Zippos:

The lighters, known as "Sega Memorial Hardware Zippo Lighter No.1 Mega Drive Model" and "Sega Memorial Hardware Zippo Lighter No. 2 Sega Saturn Model," respectively, are like the special Pac-Man edition lighters above, in that they are a touch more expensive as well, costing ¥10,500 ($114). Andriasang ironically notes is "the price of a later day Genesis, and you won't get Sonic as a pack-in." As for when to expect them, word is that December is when they will be made available.

Looking at these prices, I'm actually happier now that I don't smoke. They still look nice, though.
