The story for September seems to be all about Halo, as ODST continues the trend of sales records for Microsoft's biggest franchise, taking in a whopping 1.52 million copies.
However, even with that, the 360 couldn't take top dog in the console race, although a surprise winner still did. Sony continues the momentum from their August price drop, with the PS3 taking in 491.8 thousand sales, good enough for the highest-selling home console. Nintendo fanboys shouldn't hit the panic button just yet though, as the DS still took the top spot with 552.9 thousand sold, and the Wii still had a respectable third-place showing with 462.8 thousand in the books, a number that should grow thanks to its own price drop this month.
As for games not with Halo in the title, Wii Sports Resort continues its long-range sales with a second place showing, Madden and Batman remain in the top ten, and in the music game war of this holiday, the first battle goes to The Beatles, as The Beatles: Rock Band beat out Guitar Hero 5 in sales across all platforms, despite the 2-for-1 offer of Guitar Hero: Van Halen.
