SEGA: "Our Current Lineup Has to Be Our Best Ever"
September 15, 2009 | 10:46 AM PST

According to SEGA UK Managing Director John Clark and Marketing Director Amanda Farr, SEGA now has their "greatest lineup ever," and are planning to spend millions promoting it.

Details were revealed for retailers at the company's "Fast Forward" event last week, where an impressive slate of titles were shown off: Aliens vs. Predator, Alpha Protocol, Bayonetta, Iron Man 2, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Napoleon: Total War, Planet 51, Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing, and Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll, among others. Quite an impressive lineup indeed.

"Our current line-up has to be our best ever," said Clark. "It is the best thought out with the best depth and the best content."

"We are releasing both Mario & Sonic games pre-Christmas," he explains, "and this is joined by Football Manager and Planet 51. We are then finishing the financial year off with Napoleon: Total War, which comes hot on the heels of Empire: Total War."

"And that's not to mention probably our strongest multi-format Sonic game in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, as well as Bayonetta, Aliens vs. Predator, Vancouver 2010, and Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll," he adds.

"These games will also benefit from our strongest ever marketing support," added Farr. "The company is now better structured to take advantage of these products than it was in the past. Advertising media costs have gone down [so we get more for our money], and we are implementing some fantastic campaigns over the next six months."

As previously reported, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games is set to receive a large bulk of those marketing dollars, as SEGA is hopeful that they might be able to beat titles such as Modern Warfare 2 from Activision and EA Sports' FIFA 10 to the number one spot this Christmas.

But while the lineup does indeed look impressive, one might even say on par with some of SEGA's finer days in the past, is the phrase "best lineup ever" being overused to the point of becoming cliche'? Rawmeat Cowboy over at GoNintendo seems to believe so:

I wonder just how stupid companies think we are. Every year we get told that they have their best lineup ever, and we're supposed to swallow this line every time they spout it. I'm not knocking the quality of these games...I'm just saying that I'm really tired of companies feeding us this line.

A fair enough point, but I think SEGA may actually well and truly mean it this time. What do you guys think?
