A Sucker for Samus

I am a big Metroid fan. I own Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes on the GameCube. I also own Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii. I have played through all of these games and thoroughly enjoyed them. Why is it then that I just can't resist buying Metroid Prime Trilogy, a game that for all intents and purposes I have already experienced? Is it the sweet collector's tin the game ships in? That is very cool, but not enticing enough. Is it the value proposition of getting three games for the price of one? Well, it's a great deal if you don't already own all the games already like I do. No, what it really boils down to is that I'm a sucker for all things Metroid. I just can't help myself when it comes to helping Samus blast those freaky jellyfish monsters into oblivion.
One big motivating factor is the fact that I would love to replay these games, but I just can't make the time. I have played through all the other Metroid games multiple times. I can't even count how many times I've run through Super Metroid, only recently achieving my first 100% item collection. With the Prime series though, I've only finished each game once. They're just so long, and I am unmotivated to bust out the Wavebird and play the GameCube games when I have newer Wii games still needing to be finished. Of course, the fact that the first two games are being remade with Wii controls, just like the superior third game in the series, is a big bonus for me. I might not even look at this compilation if it had GC or Classic Controller support. Playing with the Wii Remote is more engaging and faster. I remember blowing through Metroid Prime 3 because I couldn't put it down, unlike the others where I would stop and start. I know a lot of you won't believe that the Wii makes things more fun, but for me, it can make a big difference.
As it stands, I would call Metroid my favorite game series of all time. There's just something about Samus and the sci-fi universe she inhabits that really speaks to me. Ever since we first discovered that our guy was a girl, I have been infatuated with the simple but strong story of the series. It keeps the player engaged with mysteries and exploration. The consistent timeline helps too as there is a feel of consistency that lacks in other long-running series. Maybe it's because they ration the Metroid games so strictly, making sure every single one of them is a true masterpiece. Trilogy is worth the purchase to me, and I look forward to reliving some classic adventures before gearing up for the outrageous looking Other M project. Maybe this time I'll even get 100% of all the scans. See you next mission.
