Rebooting Lara Croft seems to be all the rage as of late, and that includes Hollywood, as plans for the next Tomb Raider movie are aiming to tell the British explorer's origin story.
As Producer Dan Lin tells About.com in a video interview, "Yeah, we're rebooting Lara Croft as well. Really excited - it's a great origin story that we're going to tell. A very character-oriented I would say more realistic than the past Lara Croft movies."
He adds, "I would say it's like Terminator - character-driven action. I think for me the Lara Croft games and movies have gone a little too action-oriented. I wanted to have action, but with character."
Speaking of which, Lin recently finished work on Terminator: Salvation, which opens this Friday. It will be a good opportunity for him to see how well he does at working with origins, as he describes it as "a tightrope."
"You want to honor the existing mythology but at the same time bring in new fans," he said. "So it's a tightrope. It's definitely a tightrope."
As a result, it would seem that Lara Croft's real-life icon, Angelina Jolie, is out of the picture. This leaves the question of who could fill her boots; hasn't there been talk of Megan Fox taking up the role? Or do they want younger still?
