Why do people hate on the Wii Zapper and other supposedly useless peripherals? I kinda dig them.

So, I'm really looking forward to House of the Dead Overkill for Wii and am insanely jealous of the official "Hand Cannons" that are being released in PAL territories. I'm looking for an extra gun to use with the game. I already have a Zapper, which unlike a lot of you I find very useful. In fact, I like it a whole lot! Honestly, I feel the same about the Wii Wheel too. Sure, they're not necessary to play the games, but do they have to be in order to be worth it? Would they be better if they were stand-alone controllers that you had to use and cost five times as much?
To me, the use of these items makes the game more immersive and, in some cases, easier to play. The stock on the Wii Zapper steadies my aim. The Wii Wheel's diameter gives me a more natural turning axis. Besides all that, I just think they're fun to use! I know they've gotten a lot of criticism from gamers as being useless plastic shells, but so what? Some people like them and you don't have to use them. To me that's the best way for a peripheral to be.
Besides that, I'm a total sucker for accessories and peripherals anyway. Their inclusion actually entices me to buy a game because I also want the gadget. It's probably because during the era of gaming that I hail from, peripherals were everywhere. Like today most of them had little real usefulness, but nobody complained. I proudly look at my Power Glove, R.O.B. and other old periphery that I barely use as integral parts of my game setup. It must be my collector's mentality talking, but I like this kind of stuff and likely always will. So, to Nintendo, I say keep making the gear because I know at least one fan who is sure to buy it.
