From the news-that-shouldn't-surprise-anyone department, Nintendo led all console makers in terms of sales during Thanksgiving Week, the seven-day period home to Black Friday, with more than a million systems sold between its Wii console and DS handheld.
According to our early estimates, over 1.7 million Wii and DS units were sold last week in the Americas (with DS selling more than Wii), eclipsing the 1 million units of Nintendo hardware sold during the same period last year. This represents around $300 million in sales with a similar amount grossed for software. Top software performers were Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Rock Band, Wii Music, New Super Mario Bros, Brain Age and Nerf-N-Strike. -- VG Chartz
Microsoft and Sony also did well for themselves, with about a half a million Xbox 360s and 275,000 PlayStation 3s being sold for the week according to VG Chartz estimates.
All in all, a record 2.9 million hardware units were sold this year Thanksgiving period, about a million more systems than last year's totals. Let's see if the momentum will carry through the rest of the holiday buying season.
