E3 2008: Capcom Press Conference Liveblog

July 15, 2008 | 4:05 PM PST

by: Nathan Grayson

Attention everyone and David Oxford! Capcom's press conference is starting at 4:30 PST, and we'll be there, tying our delicate fingers into jagged pretzel-like claws in order to bring you coverage. Stay tuned to this space for live, up-to-the-minute updates.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
5:30 PM: And it's over.

5:28 PM: Capcom aims to develop games with a movie-making mindset in place. Yep, more Capcom movies are a comin'.

5:23 PM: Paul is introducing Tetsu Fujimura. He's their "matchmaker." Matching the movie producers with Capcom, a Japanese company.

5:22 PM: Now Steven Paul is talking. He's the Chief Executive Producer of Seaside Productions, apparently.

5:21 PM: Kidding. He is happy that Hayter speaks Japanese, though.

5:19 PM: Capcom's staff is happy too! Now he's saying something to Hayter. "Snake! Snake! Snaaaake!"

5:18 PM: Inafune's speech in a nutshell: he's happy to be turning the game into a movie.

5:17 PM: And speaking Japanese. Not a good combination for this whole live-blogging thing.

5:17 PM: Inafune is long-winded.

5:13 PM: Inafune wanted Lost Planet to be like a Hollywood movie when he set out to create the game.

5:12 PM: Hayter introduces Pres. of Arad Productions, Ari Arad, who then introduces Keiji Inafune.

5:11 PM: Hayter is "very, very excited about the movie."

5:10 PM: Hayter sounds just like Snake when he talks. "Nobody jokes at press conferences," he grumbles. But didn't you just...?

5:09 PM: 2011 release for the movie. They view it as a big franchise for the future. Hints at "more games."

5:05 PM: Says people are realizing game content is unique, and are moving to "exploit" it. Ain't that the truth.

5:04 PM: They're discussing how they pitched the movie, and why Lost Planet's plot is perfect for a movie. Capcom is proud to be working with Warner Bros. on the movie.

5:03 PM: David Hayter and a bunch of other guys working on the movie are now occupying the table. I've resolved to never wash this laptop again.

5:01 PM: The guy directly in front of me -- the man who accidentally brushed my laptop -- was DAVID HAYTER. DAVID FREAKING HAYTER. Why didn't he tell me?!

5:00 PM: Guy in front of me nearly began an awkward slow-clap after the trailer. He's my hero now.

4:58 PM: Now they're showing us a year-old game trailer as a refresher for Lost Planet. I'm checking my email.

4:58 PM: Right off the bat, Lost Planet: The Movie is officially announced.

4:55 PM: Inside the conference room. No one's on stage yet, but a bass-ey tune is humming through the air, and the stage is supporting a large table with microphones liberally placed. Looks like a Q&A panel.

4:49 PM: Finally. The line is moving. Should be in conference room momentarily.
