So, how do you do it? How do you pick up a girl gamer? Below, Kombo's tech editor, Candice Shane, walks you through the process in her three-part guide to picking up gamer chicks.

Finding and Hooking the Elusive Girl Gamer
Nobody faults you, hard-working Gamer Guy. In fact, the female populous doesn't only consist of giggling and clueless "Hills" girls and we're tired of everyone thinking so! As it happens, girls around the world are slowly getting on-board the video game culture. Be that as it may, you have to start out with the basics and work your way up, nothing worth getting starts out at Level 60, sometimes you have to dungeon crawl around a bit before you can get the true treasures.

As a girl gamer myself, I know how odd it feels when men are surprised by my addiction to gaming. When I go over to their houses and spot their 360 and end up fingering through the titles to see if they have any good ones, they always have this ghastly fear upon their faces. That look of "She's seen my secret shame! I best not stand in the way of the door should she bust through it screaming," which is generally very false. If anything there are titles that tell me a lot about a guy and if I see them rocking only Madden and FIFA? Well, I scrunch my nose in disgust and ask him where Resident Evil and the Call of Duty are.

For those of you whom are single and want to find gamer chicks like myself, start looking in the right places! Honestly, it's not as if we hide indoors and obviously we have to go somewhere to get our fix. Check out Arcades, go to your local gaming stores and strike-up a conversation on whatever she's looking at. Sound interested or ask if they've contemplated other titles similar to what they're looking at, as that more than likely (and always has in my experience) started up long and drawn out conversations. If you try to stay on the same level with their hobbies and don't stray, you can usually get a chuckle and a smile from one of our kind.

One thing to make sure you never do, is to insult and/or demean a girl who is into games because she is a girl. Nothing will infuriate me more than a male who scoffs and sneers at me because he figures my gender is the reason I wouldn't play a certain type of game. If I'm not good at something off-hand and they blame it on the fact I have "girl-parts," all it does is infuriate me and will turn me off of a guy. When trying to attract a girl gamer, show her that you're absolutely in awe of how good she is in comparison to the other girls you've played with. Let her know you appreciate the fact a girl likes the kind of games you do or that she even bothered playing in the first place. This isn't sexist, as us girls do the same thing if it's a hobby that we're not used to males being into (shopping, television shows, etc.). The proper thing to do here is to showcase your interests and then pull her into them by complimenting hers.

Offer to play games she might be into at first. If she's wanting to start slow and show off the fact she can rock your face in Guitar Hero III, let her play against you. As a girl gamer, I notice that I like to show guys how good I am so that they can see me on an equal level before we start trying new stuff out. Not every girl out there is fantastic at everything you are, but you'd be shocked at how willing we are to learn and to get better. Hell, the first time I started playing Call of Duty 4, I was terrible and even when I wasn't gaming with my boyfriend, I went out of my way to play when he wasn't around and logged in dozens of hours just trying to pick up the basics. That way, when we did play together, I could show him what I learned.

You've now successfully found a girl whom plays video games and wants to play with you, not just watch you and snap her gum. In part two of this series, we'll discuss the things you can do to keep a girl gamer interested and what kind of things she'll enjoy more than the average girl. As for right now, get out there with a pocket of quarters and start hitting on some fine video game vixens.
